CII NID Design Summit gets underway as a Catalyst for Innovation and Design in India

New Delhi: The 11th CII NID Design Summit was inaugurated today by Mr. PK Chaudhery, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

Inaugurating the Design Summit Mr. PK Chaudhery delivered the message of Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce, Industries and Textiles. Mr. Anand Sharma said that design is essential to increase the competitive strength of Indian industry. He said that Industry and Government needs to invest more in design. Mr. Sharma expressed a hope that design and design companies will spread to smaller cities of India and will have a positive multiplier effect on the local economies and people

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has been organizing the CII-NID Design Summit for past 10 years with National Institute of Design (NID). CII long understood the importance of design. Identifying it as one of the key element and a fundamental building block for Indian economy, CII has been supporting Design in India and for India.

Outlining a specific agenda for India Design Council, Mr. Sharma said that IDC should create an attractive environment for Indian industry, should benchmark and expand design education, improve the quality of Design Human Resource, take traditional Indian Design to mainstream and finally support green design to meet the global challenge of sustainability.

Mr. PK Chaudhery in his own address said India should leverage its own inherent strengths and couple them with the global design practices to have a unique Indian imprint.
