Girl kills self after mother informed she's on cannabis
London, Nov 24 (IANS) A teenaged girl in Britain hanged herself after a letter stating that she was using cannabis was mistakenly sent to her mother instead of her doctor.
The letter, meant for 16-year-old Tasmin Dalton's general practitioner (GP), was instead sent to her mother Tracey Smith, the Daily Mail reported.
Tasmin, from Eastleigh town in Hampshire county, had been to see mental health specialist Moira Bingham in May and they were due to talk about the note's contents ahead of a final version being drafted.
Amendments were due to be made to the letter but it was sent out by mistake. This was blamed on staff shortages and an inexperienced typist, an inquest heard.
Bingham, who worked for a child and adolescent mental health unit, told the hearing: "(Tasmin) had a very, very strong reaction. She was very angry. Very angry with me."
The hearing was told the schoolgirl had sent a letter to her, saying: "I was told everything said was strictly confidential and my mum would not be told."
"I'm appalled you have betrayed me," she was quoted as saying.
Tasmin then broke off all contact with the unit, saying she could not trust them.
